want to be a part of that future and
am committed to eliminating barri-
ers for my nurse peers. I was able to
continue my studies with help from
the Martin Health Scholarship Fund
and the Sailfish Point Foundation.”
Angels all around
Bennett and fellow nurses at
Martin Health are very grate-
ful to the Chrysanthemum
Ball committee for their
commitment to support
advanced education for
nurses.
“They are investing in hu-
man lives – in both nurses and
patients,” Bennett says. “Nurses
are often called angels for their
caring nature. Martin Health
philanthropists are our angels!”

WITH HEALTH CARE
becoming
increasingly more complex, public
health leaders like the Robert Wood
Johnson Foundation (RWJF) are
calling for advancements in nursing
education.
RWJF recently established an
initiative to increase the number of
nurses with a baccalaureate de-
gree by 80 percent by 2020. Martin
Health has put initiatives in place to
achieve this goal and enhance the
expertise and professional practice
of its nursing staff.
One nurse’s story
Melissa Bennett, a nurse in the
medical intensive care unit at
Martin Medical Center, expects to
complete her bachelor of science in
nursing (BSN) degree in April 2015.
She is actively involved in a BSN
Task Force at Martin Health.
